Leader Products Partners with Sheep Producers Australia to Launch Online eID Tag Sales for Australian Producers

Australian sheep producers now have access to a streamlined online platform to purchase electronic identification (eID) tags — thanks to a new partnership between Leader Products and Sheep Producers Australia (SPA). This industry-first initiative is designed to reduce costs, improve access, and reinvest directly into the future of the sheep sector.

David Alcock, Australasian Manager at Leader Products, said the company was proud to support the industry with practical, producer-focused solutions.

“We’re pleased to partner with SPA on this important initiative,” Mr Alcock said.
“Leader Products has a long history of supporting Australian livestock producers with reliable, compliant identification systems — and this collaboration extends that commitment by making it even easier for sheep producers to meet new traceability requirements.”

From 1 January 2025, electronic identification (eID) is mandatory for all sheep and goats born on or after this date in Australia. SPA, in leading national traceability reforms, has responded to producer feedback calling for better pricing, more control over the ordering process, and reinvestment of any surplus into advocacy, biosecurity, and leadership programs.

Through the partnership, producers can register and order tags via the SPA website, with all fulfilment managed by Leader Products. As an Australian-owned manufacturer with a proven track record in e-commerce and livestock identification, Leader ensures fast turnaround and dependable service — with most orders dispatched within three business days.

“We know producers value simplicity, speed and service. This platform delivers all three — and puts producers in control of their orders,” Mr Alcock said.

While online purchasing is well established in the cattle industry, it remains underutilized in sheep. SPA Chair Bindi Murray noted that only a small proportion of sheep tags are currently bought online, compared to nearly 50% for cattle — highlighting the opportunity to modernise.

This marks SPA’s first commercial partnership to sell products directly to producers.

“The structure is simple — keep prices low, deliver fast, and reinvest any profits into programs that benefit the broader sheep industry,” Mr Alcock said.
“Leader Products is proud to support a model that puts the producer first.”

Note: Producers in Victoria must continue purchasing through Agriculture Victoria and are not eligible to order via the SPA platform.
